The Museum of Australian Democracy at Old Parliament House (MoAD) is going back to the 80s for Enlighten. Up for the challenge of life before mobiles and the internet? Go on an adventure and meet characters who worked behind the scenes in the House, sing along to 80s hits, or take an aerobics class. Explore the decade that ushered in universal health care and the Sex Discrimination Act, and gave us neon, spandex and legwarmers too. MOAD is the people's place-connecting people across the nation, through exhibitions, collections and programs inspiring them to discover what democracy is and what it means to be Australian. Get involved: Democracy is nothing without you! For four nights only - March 1-2 and 8-9-OPH will open to visitors after dark. Step back in time to the 1980s and join in the free, fun-for-all-ages activities. EVENTS 1-11 March 2024 from 8pm-11pm: Illuminations by Nordacious (aka James Hillier) 1-2 March and 8-9 March from 7pm-10.30pm: Old Parliament House open, free. At Enlighten 2024 we remember the 1980s and celebrate the people working behind the scenes to bring democracy to us all in this colourful decade. Nordacious is a Brisbane-based visual artist who injects pop culture icons, politics, and Australiana into his striking, retro-inspired art.
